Arkham Deck Tech: Marion's good fortune

Now that the supply issues have been resolved, I finally got my hands on the Drowned City investigator and campaign boxes. This Marion Tavares deck is to be used in my blind run of the campaign. I have no idea what's coming, I avoided spoilers and tried my hardest to not look at any treachery cards while sleeving them.

Let's first talk about Marion's Reaction ability. Once per round, after she plays an event during her turn, she draws one card and can play a different event, still paying its cost, obviously. It seems her deck should have more events than your usual Guardian deck. I would like to avoid a pitfall, her deck should not look like a NatCho deck. That would be boring. I'll go even one step further: I should not use any of NatCho's cards.

To help make her deck unique, secondly, I will use her Trait choice. I'm going with Fortune, it seems to be the trait with the most options. I see a good synergy here that I didn't necessarily see with Gambit or Improvised. Here is my selection of events:

    • Lucky: A basic tool to succeed more often.
    • Oops!: Worst case, it's two fists to fight tougher enemies, best case, I miss, but still do something.
    • Dodge: Useful protection tool.
    • Scrounge for Supplies: It seems to be an interesting way to add recursion in the deck, get back more events to fuel Marion's reaction, or a trusty weapon.
    • Grievous Wound: Speaking of weapons, Marion only has one arm, limiting the set of weapons available to her. Just for fun, I'll be going only with melee weapons and try to get the most out of Grievous.
    • "If it bleeds...": I have no idea if there are monsters in the campaign. However, we're fighting Chtulu; therefore, I expect to lose a lot of sanity.
    • Ready for Anything: More sanity healing with recursion. To be honest, Marion's being in the card art played a big factor too. 😉

As you can see, these events are there to support Marion's main role as taking care of enemies. She will still need good weapons for that. As mentioned, I'm going with a strict melee arsenal with the classics: Machete, Enchanted Blade and Survival Knife. As far as one-handed melee weapons, these are probably the best.

Marion's deck also allows for five Survivor cards. It's been a while since I've used "Not without a fight" and it feels appropriate here. Marion should be regularly engaged with enemies, and she could use this versatile skill card. I'm also going with Leather Coat. It's cheap, can eat two hits and commits for a fist if needed. It might also be upgraded out if it doesn't end being useful.

Rounding out the deck are two more classic skills to help deal with enemies, Overpower and Vicious Blow, and a Guard Dog to nibble the baddies.

I won't pretend this a very original deck, but it should get the job done. I do not have an upgrade plan yet, which should leave me plenty of room to adapt to the campaign.
