My friends sacrificed me for a token! (Oathsworn)
My Oathsworn character was sacrificed to a dark entity by the group... for a token!

We're in the last third of an Oathsworn campaign, second edition. I have plenty of thoughts about the game, the many flaws I see in its design, but these will be part of a future dedicated article. For the moment, though, here's a little fun story...
Some context about the game first. In Oathsworn, you play a team of four mercenaries in a very dark fantasy world, not unlike Warhammer, and fight big bad evils. The game is divided in two parts, the narrative section where you try to learn about your prey and the actual battles. There are choices in the narrative section, regularly two investigation paths from my experience. Without going into too many details about the gameplay, each character has a deck of cards detailing their powers, there's a cooldown mechanism, success is determined by a die roll and there's a bunch of single use token to boost your dice pool, reroll, add to your defense, the usual stuff. Sometimes the story provides you with a few tokens, but you mostly get to choose a one for your battle starting pool every few levels.
Back to last night. The game presented us with a choice, what looked like a corrupted entity offered us a minor advantage in the next fight, a single use token for example, in exchange for a small loss (1 hit point, losing a card, etc.). The group voted against it, but the entity presented a new offer: sacrifice one of your character and the reward will be even greater, the token would be marked on our character sheets, meaning it would be part of our starting pool in every upcoming battle. Most of the narrative choices in the game are discussed openly, but a few are resolved with a secret vote. This was one of these situations.
I was the only one voting against the sacrifice of one of us! The game told us then: tough luck for the single nay vote, it must be the sacrifice! In other words, my companion sacrificed me to an evil entity for a token!
We had a good laugh about it, the narrative made sense, there are clear and easy rules about creating a new character mid-campaign, either because you don't like the class you're playing or because you died permanently, which is fortunately very rare. We also realized it was a blessing in disguise. My character had permanent injuries that will not carry onto the new character. I have many complaints about Oathsworn, but at least the story is very entertaining.
